7 Dog Training Mistakes Everett Dog Owners Should Stop Making

The internet has given dog owners more training advice than ever.
Unfortunately, it has also made it much harder to know what advice actually applies to your dog.
Here are seven mistakes we commonly see owners make.
1. Waiting for the Problem to Become Serious
If your puppy is already jumping, pulling and ignoring you, don't assume they'll automatically grow out of it.
Behaviors that are repeatedly practiced can become habits.
2. Training Only Inside the House
Your dog might be perfect in your living room.
Then you take them outside and everything disappears.
Dogs need to gradually learn how to perform behaviors around real distractions.
3. Repeating Commands
“Come.”
“Come.”
“COME.”
If your dog learns that the first command doesn't really matter, repeating it doesn't solve the problem.
Training should teach the dog to respond to the cue.
4. Expecting a Quick Fix
Training isn't a software update.
A dog doesn't download a new personality overnight.
Real behavior change comes from repetition, consistency and appropriate progression.
5. Confusing Socialization With Constant Interaction
A socialized dog doesn't need to greet every dog and every person.
Being comfortable observing the world without reacting to everything is an important skill too.
6. Ignoring the Human Side of Training
Dogs aren't the only ones learning.
Owners have to learn timing, consistency, communication and how to reinforce the behavior they actually want.
7. Taking Random Internet Advice Without Considering the Dog
The same technique won't work identically for every dog.
Age, history, temperament, environment and the actual behavior all matter.
If your dog has a serious behavior problem, professional assessment can be much more useful than trying ten different internet hacks.
At K9 Reform, our goal is practical training that helps dogs and owners function better together in everyday life.
The best training advice isn't the most viral advice. It's the advice that actually helps you and your dog.
